ABOUT THE FILM
Doris is an undocumented Mexican housemaid working for a spoiled family, where she works hard to satisfy their every whim in exchange for their support with her green card application. When the family leaves for the holidays, Doris is left in charge of the embittered and bigoted grandfather.
STORY
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
I have been living in Los Angeles for a few years now and have heard many enlightening immigration stories - one of these stories even came from the family that took me in when I just arrived. After seeing the struggle undocumented immigrants go through, I felt the need to make a film about that.
I didn’t want to tell a story where I victimize the undocumented people. I didn’t want to make a film where audiences feel depressed about it. I didn’t want to make a melodrama. I strongly believe that there is nothing more powerful than presenting reality as it is; and life itself is a drama and a comedy at the same time.
This American/Mexican joint production was made thanks to the incredible support of all our cast and crew. We are very gratefull for the strong encouragement we received from within our filmmaking community. We hope that DORIS make people think and talk about this heartbraking immigration issue and at the same time deliver a narrative about friendship that they can all enjoy.
